因为信仰本是神给予人的特权，所以我们不能强制人信，也不能强制人不信。政府对或错都有权干涉一切会害人的性命或财务的事，但他绝对不能重生一个人的灵魂。政府如果将所有寺庙关闭也不能叫去寺庙的人成为基督徒；或是禁止基督徒谢饭祷告也不能阻挡基督徒放弃基督信仰。倘若宗教信仰的东西借着外在的因素来强制，这回造成那有不同宗教信仰的人向彼此反击，或是向政府要求更多的特权。所以，在这原则之下，我们知道神给予我们信徒最关键的使命是靠着圣灵的大能传福音与将所信的福音真真实实的活出来，以至说服人信，使人归向主。
Because faith is the special rights bestowed by God, we cannot therefore force others to believe, neither can we do otherwise. Governing authority has the rights to intervene in all that may threaten the lives and possessions of men, but he is never able to give a soul born again. Even if the government shuts down all temples, it will also not result in all temple-goers becoming Christians; or if they forbid Christians to say grace before meals, neither will it hinder the Christians or cause them to abandon their faith. If a religion is enforced by external oppression, it will only cause the people of different religions to attack one another, demanding more special rights from the government. Therefore, under this principle, we know that the most critical mission God has given us is to rely on the Holy Spirit to preach the gospel, and to genuinely live out this gospel such that people’s hearts can be convinced and turn to the Lord.
